Bridal Traditions in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a region abundant with exciting customs. The ones that surround the bride can be quite interesting, moving, and completely different from the traditional american meeting. While filming celebrations in Bulgaria, I had the opportunity to witness a few of them.

One of the most distinctive Bulgarian marriage customs is known as “gelina.” It’s where the wedding goes and steals his wife from her parents home, taking her to his own household. It’s thought that this tradition did protect against wicked disposition and provide great wealth for the brides.

The couple will typically attend a large reception in a restaurant or other venue following the ceremony ( or both ). Their mothers likely trade modest pieces of the conventional circular bread dipped in salt and honey before going in. The first element is salty to remind them of the problems their relationship will present, and the second is honeyed, which serves as a reminder of the delicacy that will also be present in their life together.

The “kumove,” two people who are the couple’s most essential friends and instructors, are another crucial component of the bridal, acting as their guardians and coaches. They will guide them in their future lives collectively and assist them through the challenging days.

After the reception begins it’s period for a lot of dancing. The dance begins with the best gentleman and best russian brides woman. The bride and groom dance a few times, which is typical, to get their extremely lovely wedding cake.
